Career Transition with Modecai

What sparked your career change?

I lost enthusiasm, the work I was doing was no longer fulfilling

What work were you doing previously?

Accounting

What are you doing now?

I work as a business consultant helping owners grow their businesses.

Why did you change jobs?

Covid 19 reminded me of the fragility of life and how things can change in an instant. If something were to happen to me, I  wanted to be sure I made the most of my life doing something that inspired me.

What process did you go through to decide to change?

I confided in friends and family for advice on what I could do next.

How did you go about making the shift?

To be honest I took a chance on the unknown because what I did know was that I was unhappy in my job and I had to make a decision to either remain unhappy or explore other options.

What help did you manage to get?

I got a loan to purchase a small business.

What was the hardest part of changing careers?

Developing new ways of thinking. I had been so used to doing one thing and now had a lot of new learnings ahead of me.

What have you learned in the process?

To be long in vision and steady in action. Good things can take time but they need to get started to happen.

Are you happy with the change?

I’m very happy with the change

What do you miss and what don’t you miss?

I miss having the relative certainty of how each day was going to pan out. At the same time I don’t miss the repetitiveness of my days.

What do you enjoy most about your new career?

I feel engaged again and excited to feel like I’m making a real difference in my client’s lives.

What do you wish you’d done differently?

Nothing,  I’m a big believer in things happening for you and not to you. Everything that occurred was all a part of the process.

What 3 tips would you give advice to others in the same situation?

-Check in with yourself and your loved ones if you’re enjoying what you’re doing

-Have a vision for what you want out of your life and be as clear as you can be with it

-Be open, you never know when or what opportunities are available unless you’re open to them
